Somerset Public Health partnered with New Balance to participate in the SparkStart Global Volunteer Week. SparkStart is a New Balance Foundation global charitable initiative focused on improving health, well-being, and self esteem of children through movement.
New Balance employees volunteered their time to improve and renovate play spaces at the Bloomfield Elementary School, North Elementary School, and Skowhegan Community Center.
New Balance volunteers spruced up outdoor and indoor play areas, made running tracks and fitness trails, and improved the look and feel of play spaces by painting murals. An outdoor classroom and garden spaces were also built to integrate nature into lessons about science, health, and nutrition. Schools will use the gardens as learning environment, and to increase students' access to fresh produce while at school.
New Balance's goal is to fuel the next generation's passion for movement and lifelong well being. In addition to the SparkStart Global Volunteer Week activities, New Balance Foundation also directly supports the Move More Kids and Let's Go! Somerset programs at SPH.
We were proud and honored to be a part of this great event. Thanks so much to New Balance, their employees, and the New Balance Foundation for supporting our community!
